Music
At Shakespeare Infant School, we want children to develop a love and enjoyment of music and the confidence to participate, perform and be creative. Children develop their skills through singing, playing, listening, composing, performing and evaluating, while building the musical vocabulary to talk about the music they hear and create.
Children experience music from a wide range of cultures, traditions, contexts and genres and explore key musical elements such as pitch, tempo, dynamics, timbre, texture and structure. They have opportunities to play tuned and untuned instruments, explore basic musical notation and create music using instruments, body percussion and their voices.
Music is brought to life through assemblies, performances and instrumental learning. In Year 2, children take part in the Listen to Me programme, delivered by a specialist Hampshire Music Service teacher, with opportunities to learn instruments including African percussion, Samba drums and the ukulele.
Through Music, we aim to nurture creativity, confidence and resilience, giving every child the opportunity to enjoy music as a listener, creator and performer.
