Science
Children build their scientific knowledge and skills progressively, from exploring the world through the Early Years Foundation Stage's Understanding of the World curriculum to studying plants, animals, living things and their habitats, materials and seasonal changes in Key Stage 1.
Practical experiences bring learning to life, from investigating which materials could make a great moon rover to observing seasonal changes in our school grounds.
Our wonderful woodland and outdoor spaces provide valuable opportunities for first-hand scientific enquiry. Children learn to work scientifically by observing closely, asking questions, making predictions, carrying out simple tests, using equipment, collecting information and drawing conclusions from their findings. As they progress through the school, they become increasingly confident and independent scientific thinkers.
Science is carefully connected with other areas of learning, helping children make meaningful links between knowledge, creativity and real-world experiences. Our learning is enriched through memorable experiences, including visits to places such as Hillier Gardens and special visitors including Spirit of the Wild.
Our school values of collaboration, thinking, spirituality, independence, creativity and curiosity are woven throughout science learning and reflect our wider 'We Care' ethos. Through our science curriculum, we aim to develop confident, inquisitive learners with a lifelong curiosity about the world and an appreciation of how science shapes their lives and their future.
